week of 10/19/2008

Next Sunday’s big event—besides the constant bigness of the church coming together to study and worship and commune at the Lord’s table—will be our Trunk-or-Treat.  It is once again an opportunity for us to get ourselves before the Bono community by serving their needs.  Be assured these parents are grateful to have their kids Halloweening in what they know is a harmless environment.   Be aware that because of Trunk-or-Treat, our evening worship period will be abbreviated to about 30 minutes.

Because I was their guest, I can tell you that the Jones Shepherd Group had an excellent soup and chili fellowship meal last Sunday after morning services.  A large number attended as well as several guests from morning service.  Because they brought so much good chili, soups, and trimmings, they invited our entire Sunday night crowd to join them for leftovers.  Yummy!

Our Nursery Ministry, anxious to get things going, will have a meeting Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm in the Library.   Our 7th-12th Youth Committee has met a couple of times lately and is beginning to make some plans to get our Youth Group rolling strong again soon.  First event is a hayride next Sunday (Nov. 2nd) at Alan & Rhonda Keith's place.  Look for more details in Sunday's bulletin.  I am excited about what these ministries and committees will do for us!

We are delighted to have Preston, Bri, and Jaxon Hines back home from Hawaii and wishing to become a part of this church family again.  You might add them to your blue membership directory: Preston, Bri, and Jaxon Hines / 460 N. Deborah / Bono, AR  72416 / Preston’s phone # is 760-468-8395 / Bri’s phone # is 760-500-5848

Let me remind you of our looming church family photo directory project.  Our goal is to have every member’s picture included.  The main photo-shoot dates will be Dec. 11th, 12th, and 13th with a makeup date on January 7th.

November 2nd's sermon topic will be politics and what the Christian's attitude should be about elections and ballot issues and such.  Then the following week I'll preach on God's View of Children and what our responsibility is toward their spiritual needs.  I will tease a bit by telling you our responsibility is GREAT!

You may not be aware of it but our elders are spending some time together most every Wednesday evening after our assembly ends... sometimes planning, sometimes handling issues that have arisen, but most times praying for the Bono church, especially the special needs and situations of our family members.  How blessed we are with the good men who shepherd us!  As they pray over us, so should we always remember to pray for them.

Jesus described John the Baptist as a “lamp that burned and gave light.”  Though humbly noting that we hardly stretch up to John’s height, or his brightness, we are God’s lights, too.  God has put us here and given us the Great Light to shine into the darkness about us.  So shine, Christians, shine!
